I am an education and behavioral specialist. I have an M.Ed. in Educational Psychology, A certification in Positive Behavior Support, a mediation certificate from the Attorney General’s office in AZ, and a wealth of experience in supporting parents, working for the state department of education and now being in the classroom. With the variety of perspectives, I am able to problem solve on a whole different level. I have a son with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy who is also on the Autism spectrum.
I can review your IEP or 504 and make sure you are getting all the services your child needs. I can settle disputes with the school and help them understand Duchenne and how to collaborate with you as the parent. I can create simple behavior outlines to help the teacher support your child’s behavioral needs. Many times, I will reach out to the teacher or various members of the team via phone conference and we are able to clear up misunderstandings. Because I speak “education” we are able to find the common ground much quicker and then I am able to translate that info to you in a meaningful way. Lastly, when things are very difficult, I have been effective Skyping into meetings as well.
